AI Capabilities
Military Evasive Route Planner
Peer adversary and the rise of inexpensive anti-access/area-denial weapons suggest that during a future war, the U.S. Air Force and its allies may lose significant numbers of planes for the first time in 3 decades. SEI is working with the Air Force Research Laboratory to develop an AI Evasive Route Planner to aid a pilot in planning an evasive route, which increases their likelihood of evading and surviving.
Civilian Search and Rescue Tool
Search and Rescue (SAR) operations are time-sensitive and critical functions. However, the SAR tactics used in SAR operations have not evolved to take advantage of 21st-century machine-learning tools. SEI is working with the Air Force Research Laboratory to leverage agent-based models and artificial intelligence to predict the location of civilians in wilderness environments.
AI Preparation of the Battlespace
Intelligence preparation of the battlespace (IPB) is the “systematic, continuous process of analyzing the threat and environment in a specific geographic area,” which is done to determine and evaluate adversary or enemy capabilities, vulnerabilities, and probable courses of action (COAs). SEI is working with the Office of Naval Research to develop an AI solution that aids Commanders in rapidly and continuously performing the IPB process.
Tactical Real-time Decision Support
SEI is working with the Office of Naval Research to develop real-time decision support systems for small units. We are exploring the human-machine interface for providing real-time recommendations and the types of recommendations useful to small unit leaders.
AI Military Force Composition
Through several small business innovative research projects, SEI has developed the capability to recommend operational deployment of forces. Using a combination of machine learning and simulations, SEI can recommend effective and efficient military force compositions that meet the Commander’s intent across multiple simultaneous theaters.
Tactical Physical Security Information Management System
SEI has developed the capability to deploy Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) systems in austere environments without relying on consistent and available power. We have tested our solution in military exercises, demonstrating the capability to increase situational awareness by monitoring cameras, radar, intrusion detection systems, and Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) from a single interface.
SEI Virtual Combat Training
SEI has developed the capability to create custom combat training scenarios with adaptive AI units. We have trained the United States Naval Academy, U.S. Marines, and the Adaptive Future Force. Our training solution has improved participants’ communication skills, terrain association ability, identification of key defensive locations, and forward observation procedures. Our AI solution adapts to participant’s activities, ensuring a challenging adversary.
SEI AI Research & Development Team
SEI’s AI Research & Development Team leverages strategic relationships with academic institutions, large businesses, and military subject matter experts to develop AI solutions that increase the warfighters lethality and survivability. We stand ready to meet our customer’s current and future challenges.
